In rereading one of Richard Bach’s books, Running from Safety, recently, this phrase struck me and I thought I would share it with you.
“Life does not require us to be consistent, cruel, patient, helpful, angry, rational, thoughtless, loving, tolerant, wasteful, rich, down-trodden, gentle, sick, considerate, funny, stupid, healthy, greedy, beautiful, lazy, responsive, foolish, sharing, pressured, intimate, hedonistic, industrious, insightful, capricious, wise, selfish, kind or sacrificed. What life does require, however, us to live with the consequences of our choices.”
What a great reminder! We do actually choose every action and emotion we have – whether we realize it or not. When bringing this to people’s attention from time-to-time, they often tell me that someone else has caused them to feel or act in a certain way.
Well, as much as I wish it were so, it isn’t. Oh yes, there are times I would sure like to blame somebody else for my circumstances or feelings I’m having about something, I can’t!
Actually, if everybody would participate in that reality just once a day what a better world we would have. And if we made the commitment to practice it 2 or 3, much less all the time, think of the impact that would have!
WOW, the changes we would make for ourselves, our families and it would just ripple right on out!
I wonder if you agree or not? Love to have your feedback.
Enjoy a great weekend . . . .
